If dinner is more to your liking then this Italian eatery’s menu includes appetizers like baby eggplant topped with fresh mozzarella in a light marinara sauce, portabello mushrooms topped with roasted tomatoes, pineapple, and goat cheese, and the traditional cheese platter or antipasto. Main courses include linguine bolognese, gnocchi, tilapia with steamed broccoli and chopped tomatoes in a garlic white wine sauce, steak over sautéed spinach, shrimp over linguine with chopped tomatoes and basil in a garlic white wine sauce, and chicken spiedini. When in Brooklyn, stop by Scottadito Osteria Toscana establishment for a true taste of what Tuscany has to offer. This eatery specializes in brunch and dinner. For brunch you can order such delicacies as ‘Al Salmone,’ a heavenly combination of two eggs with smoked salmon, and ‘Uova Fiorentina,’ two poached eggs on an English muffin with spinach, hollandaise sauce and pesto. In addition, one can also enjoy simple pasta items at brunch including ‘Gnocchetti di spinaci,’ a spinach and ricotta gnocchi dish liberally doused in a sage butter sauce. If you prefer something sweet, you can enjoy plain or chocolate chip buttermilk pancakes or ‘pane dolce alla ‘Nutella e Banane,’ which is a plate of decadent French toast, chocolate-hazelnut creme, and caramelized bananas. Dinner at Scottadito offers a wide selection of handmade pasta, including whole wheat fusilli and gluten free penne. Pasta entrées include fettuccine zafferan and ‘Fruti di Mare,’ a dish of fragrant saffron fettuccine with lump crab meat, tiger shrimp, scallops, and mussels bathed in a spicy yellow tomato broth. Other entrées include ‘Yellowfin Tuna Caponata,’ which is grilled yellowfin tuna served over eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash, cherry tomatoes, and kalamata olives in a balsamic reduction, and ‘Casserola di Pollo Salciccia,’ a dish of stewed chicken, homemade sausage, shallots, portobello mushrooms, roasted peppers and potatoes served in a white wine sauce.  This charming, classic eatery has got to be one of my top five Italian restaurants in New York City!

Coppola’s Restaurant

378 3rd Avenue, New York, NY, 10016 $$

Located in walking distance from Baruch College in the Kip’s Bay area, Coppola’s Restaurant is ideal for grabbing lunch on a busy afternoon or sitting down for a nice, relaxing dinner in the evening. For lunch, appetizers include ‘Angus Beef Carpaccio’ and ‘Mom’s Jumbo Meatballs.’ Sandwiches include meatball parmagiana, grilled chicken, and prosciutto and mozzarella. Of course, an Italian restaurant in NYC would not be complete without a selection of freshly made pizza and Coppola’s delivers with their excellent white pizza primavera and pizza fiorentina. Other lunch entrées include a wide selection of homemade pastas and dishes like breaded chicken Milanese, risotto pescatore, and grilled Atlantic Salmon dijon. Dinner at Coppola’s has main courses like stuffed chicken Toscana and lump crabmeat crusted branzino along with several chef’s specials like homemade black linguine and sliced New York strip steak. Pasta dinner showcases items like homemade tortellini Daniela and fettuccine bolognese. To end dinner on a perfectly sweet note, Coppola’s offers a classic tiramisu, a warm apple pie, assorted sorbet, chocolate chip cheesecake, grandma’s cheesecake, their signature creme brûlée, and a nice little number named the ‘Warm Chocolate Bomb.’ For a wonderful Italian dining experience and a great deal to accompany it, Coppola’s is definitely a place to visit among the myriad of Italian restaurants throughout NYC.
